Venessa Hope edition by Ty Findlay Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I have received this book from the author in exchange for a free unbiased review.
Venessa's Hope by Ty Findlay seems to be written from the heart, and with a fairy tale ending. Obviously it is the author's first novel which has not been refined, critiqued, edited or improved. (There is no mention of an editor, no dedication and no acknowledgements.)
The protagonist Venessa Donovan is a rich and successful escort with a hidden past and a heart of gold. She mixes drugs and liquor to forget her past and blank out her present.
Eric White is one of Venessa's steady customers who develops a soft corner for her, and becomes her knight in shining armor, accompanying her to her hometown and killing her dragons.
The start is promising To those frequently misunderstood. Others will forever choose to undermine what they do not understand. It is up to you to find yourself, your journey and to overcome the boundaries that have been set for you.) The cover is lovely and sure to attract browsers.
That said, the lack of editing is evident. Even the synopsis is better written than the book. "Vanessa" appears repeatedly in the same paragraphs; "conscious" used instead of "conscience"; punctuation could be improved; and there are odd sentences like "Pain leaves its victims, feeling like this is as good as it gets."
This is a very good book. Vanessa is an escort and works at a high class establishment. She is one of the sought out women and brings in the most money. However, she is not happy and will mix alcohol with drugs. One night Eric (one of her high paying customers) can tell that something is bothering Vanessa. He knows her actions especially after a coming in for a year. She is strong willed and stubborn and will not disclose any information. He gives her his business card for if she changes her mind and would like someone to talk to. Then one day he finds Vanessa passed out on his porch and carries her inside. He discovers that she has mixed alcohol with pills. He stays up most of the night tending to her and in the morning when she finally wakens he ask her how she found his house and why was she there. She told him that she got a call that her mother died. Eric could tell that she was uncertain about making the trip and told her that he would go with her to her hometown. Once there Eric discovers information about her past that angers him and he wants to comfort her and she starts to depend on him. Once he discovers what all she is going through he feels that his ghost in the closet are not as bad as he thought yet he wants to go back to his family to make things right with his parents and his brother. This is a very well written story. Would recommend.
